The Marion Voices Culture Keepers Roster is an living, media-rich index of folk, traditional, heritage, & cultural artists living in and around Marion County, Ohio — modeled on other successful multimedia community folklife rosters like the Oregon Culture-Keepers Roster of the Oregon Folklife Network.
Marion Voices‘ Culture Keepers Roster was launched in 2020 as the culmination of a FY2022 Ohio Arts Council ArtsNEXT grant for transformative innovation and features cultural & traditional artists documented & interviewed as a part of our Marion Voices County-Wide Folk/Traditional/Cultural Arts Survey from January to mid-March 2020. We have since completed two additional annual countywide folklife survey rounds — in Summer 2022 & June 2023 — & hope to upload media from these projects by the end of 2024. As our budget & program load allows, we intend to conduct an annual countywide folklife survey each calendar year: inaugurating new cohorts of 5-10 community cultural artists to the roster each year.
Our hope is that the Marion Voices Culture Keepers Roster acts not only as an innovative digital archive, to amplify the stories, histories, experiences, and expressive culture forms of Marion County’s wildly talented folk/traditional/cultural artists; but that it also serves as a business directory to help build livelihoods for cultural arts & cultural artists in Marion County. We have put fields on each cultural artists’ page indicating whether they sell goods, and if so, where; and whether they teach and/or take on apprenticeships. Please note that, though we can often connect you to the featured artist, this page is run & managed by Marion Voices: not by any of the individuals or organizations featured here.
