ARTIST BIOGRAPHY:
Daveon McGary is a traditionally-trained men’s barber & heritage hair aritst, and runs Platinum Plus: Marion’s premiere Black-owned barbershop, catering, especially, to the hair types, hairstyles, and needs of Marion’s Black & Latinx communities. Daveon got his start in barbering work observing long-time local Black barbers in the community before completing his barbering school in Columbus. He returned to his hometown of Marion, Ohio and apprenticed with a long-time barber before launching his own barbershop, music production studio, & urban fashionware boutique: Platinum Plus Barbershop. Borrowing its name from Daveon’s long-running hip-hop music production & media empire, the four-room Platinum Plus complex is a true artisans’ community, featuring a nail studio cooperative used by local nail artists & beauticians, a boutique shop dedicated to urban streetware, and Daveon’s own music production studios, in addition to a large, spacious four-stall barbershop.
Platinum Plus currently employs four talented barbers, and prides itself on providing culturally-sustaining hairstyles & traditions for Black & Latinx hair types & needs in the Marion County community.
Daveon McGary also independently offers services in hip-hop & other genres of music production — including offering a full-service recording studio & production suite at Platinum Plus Barbershop — & several members of the extended Platinum Plus community offer musical & documentary film services.
