“Modern-Style” Quilter, Cross-Stitcher, & Seamstress

ARTIST BIOGRAPHY:

JoAnn Henning is well-known in her Marion County community & church congregation for her wide-ranging & creative “modern-style” quilting work — including her years in a church-sponsored weekly quilting circle, helping to steward creative community & companionship for other Marion County quilters. Henning is not just a quilter, though — she also is a seamstress & fiber artist who has done work in counted cross-stitch, stuffed animal-making, & a variety of other means. Henning is passionate about sharing the opportunities of contemporary quilting for self-expression, and has made both traditional-style quilt patterns and more experimental pieces, depicting, amongst other things, animals & pianos. Henning quilts primarily as a means of self-expression & to support others in her Marion County community & extended family.
