The Marion Voices Culture Keepers Roster is an living, media-rich index of folk, traditional, heritage, & cultural artists living in and around Marion County, Ohio. This first iteration of our roster is the culmination of Marion Voices’ 2019-2020 ArtsNEXT grant for transformative innovation from the Ohio Arts Council, and features cultural & traditional artists documented & interviewed as a part of our Marion Voices County-Wide Folk/Traditional/Cultural Arts Survey from January to mid-March 2020. We will be adding to the project as we continue to document more cultural artists in future fieldwork cycles (or whenever COVID-19 makes it safe to do so).
Our hope is that the Marion Voices Culture Keepers Roster acts not only as an innovative digital archive, to amplify the stories, histories, experiences, and expressive culture forms of Marion County’s wildly talented folk/traditional/cultural artists; but that it also serves as a business directory to help build livelihoods for cultural arts & cultural artists in Marion County. We have put fields on each cultural artists’ page indicating whether they sell goods, and if so, where; and whether they teach and/or take on apprenticeships.
The Marion Voices Culture Keepers Roster and the preliminary countywide folk/traditional/cultural arts survey that built it are the first step in Marion Voices’ work as Marion County’s new countywide folk/traditional arts and oral history program.
